Elevation Triple India Pale Ale
(Renegade Brewing Company)

We're definitely excited to open this can of Elevation Triple India Pale Ale from Denver's Renegade Brewing Company. Not only is this one of our 13 Cans to Look for in 2013 but was also named the "2nd Best Beer in Colorado" in 2011 by Denver Off the Wagon. Oh yeah, at 11% this will also be the strongest canned beer we've reviewed since Oskar Blues' Ten Fidy Imperial Stout over 4 years ago! How far we've come. Bring it on! Cheers!

From the Renegade Brewing Company site:

"You wanted hops? You got it. Single hopped with Summit hops for a citrusy yet earthy punch. At 11% ABV the bold malt character of this brew balances out the hops well so you won’t be overwhelmed with bitterness. Voted 2nd Best Beer in Colorado for 2011 by the readers of Denver Off the Wagon!"

Here we go...

Pour - for a beer of this strength this has a beautiful, big, thick head and a great looking bright golden hue. Pours rather viscous as one might imagine. Lacing forms quite well as the inch or so of white foam begins to sink down.

Aroma - wow. Huge whiffs of pungent and dank tropical fruit aromas - loads of pineapple, passionfruit, orange, tangerine, and guava. This smells heavenly and just ridiculously fresh. I can't wait to dive into this.

Taste - a massive wave of floral, fruity, tropical, hoppiness immediately takes over the palate. Very bitter with a sharp, dry bite in the finish. At 11% this is packing a serious punch but remains extremely smooth. The summit hops are certainly the focus of this brew and they really shine. Along with all those great tropical fruit notes are some strong pine flavors, the kind that anyone who has developed a love of hops over the years is happy to come across. As this warms a lot of the flavors really start to stand out. If you can force yourself to slow down and drink this slowly you'll be rewarded.

Overall - yes, if you consider yourself something of a hophead you'll want to seek some of these out. A very big, very aromatic, very flavorful, and very full-flavored IPA x3. Certainly worthy of the praise it has received.

Note - when it comes to strong hoppy beers in a can. Here are the top 6 strongest canned beers that have a focus on hops...
