Oskar Blues and REEB Cycles to Open CyclHOPS Bike CAN-tina
The CyclHOPS Bike CAN-tina will offer up Tequila & Southwestern combinations along with craft beer & custom bikes.
Longmont, CO – Oskar Blues’ passion for bikes and craft beer is the inspiration behind the CyclHOPS Bike CAN-tina, set to open in Longmont, CO, at the end of 2013. The quick full-service taco and tequila eatery will also be the official retail home for the Oskar Blues in-house bike brand, REEB Cycles.
The CyclHOPS CAN-tina will seat up to 300 people and will offer up 20 craft beers on tap as well as 43 premium tequilas in the CAN-tina’s tequila tasting room. The restaurant will bring a little bit of south-of-the-border soul to Colorado with a tequila tiki bar, handmade tortillas and a menu featuring fresh, fast combinations inspired by authentic and traditional taco-makin’ techniques.
A full-service bike shop and retail location for REEB Cycles will also be housed in the Bike CAN-tina, located at 600 S. Airport Road. The all-American bike company was born as a middle finger to bikes made overseas and to bike thieves, after owner Dale Katechis’ bike was stolen in 2011. REEB Cycles are built locally and offer up an aggressive all-mountain approach to the more traditional hardtail, designed to mirror the rocky and technical ColoRADo terrain. Each bike is equipped with a Denver-based Gates Carbon Drive (www.carbondrivesystems.com), and the 100% American-made materials are all custom-created by local welder, Chris Sulfrian. REEB bikes challenge the status quo in the same way that Dale’s Pale Ale did when in it busted onto the craft beer scene in a can in 2002.
REEB Cycles currently offers four models: SFP & PFP Mountain Bikes, TyREEB Titanium Mountain Bikes, The REEBdonkadonk Fat Bike, The Sam’s Pants Gravel Grinder All-Arounder. The bikes created a buzz in the first full year (2012) producing nearly 100 frames while being named Outside Magazine’s “Top 9 Mountain Bikes of Spring 2012” and racking up international race results to go along with the post-ride beers. In 2012 Macky Franklin won the Breck-Epic (www.breckepic.com ) Single Speed Stage Race World Championship aboard a REEB before heading to South Africa and finishing second in the Single Speed World Championships along with many national and regional race wins. Although the race wins confirm the race ready side of REEB Cycles, Mountain Flyer Magazine & Dirt Rag Magazine published articles that highlight the trail bike mentality & trailside beer vibe of the bikes.
The new location will create a bike-centric REEB retail & service location while adding to the bicycle advocacy outreach efforts of local organizations, Bicycle Longmont and Boulder Mountain Bike Alliance.
Stay tuned with progress online:
About Oskar Blues Brewery
Founded by Dale Katechis in 1997 as a brewpub and grill, Oskar Blues Brewery launched its craft-brewed beer canning operations in 2002 in Lyons, CO. It was the first American craft brewery to brew and hand-can its beer. Today there are more than 200 craft breweries canning beer. The original crew used a hand-canning line on a tabletop machine that sealed one can at a time. Oskar Blues Brewery in Longmont packaged 59,000 in 2011 and grew to 85,750 in 2012 while opening an additional brewery in Brevard, NC, in late 2012.
